According to the CIA World Factbook, the Persians are the largest people group of Iran, composing 61 percent of the population and numbering over 36 million. In fact, Iran was called Persia until 1935. The actual Persian identity is the product of multiple ethnicities and beliefs that have influenced the region. As a result, the Persians are a people with a long history of kings and conquerors, culture, and arts.
Modern Iran is highly influenced by Arab society and largely adheres to Islam as the country’s religion. Though many Persians will identify as Muslim, few follow the practice as strictly as would be expected.
Sustainability // The Bigger Story
Persians spread across the world numbering over 40 million in total across 42 countries, and still few know the truth about Jesus. Pray for churches to seize the opportunity to share the gospel with Persians in countries like those in Europe, where the gospel is easily accessible
Partnership // Move Beyond
Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:
- Pray for divine opportunities for workers to share the gospel with Persians both inside and outside Iran.
- Pray God will move in the lives of the Persian people, that they will see visions, witness miracles, and hear the Word of God.
- Pray for safety for Persian believers in Iran as they boldly proclaim the Gospel.
