The Banjar number around 4.5 million and are currently considered one of the least reached people groups with 0.00% of their population following Jesus. The Banjar tend to live near other family members and seldom move out of the Kalimantan region of Indonesia. Many Banjar make a living through farming or working on a plantation or factory. Banjar people believe that their ethnic identity cannot be separated from their religion, Islam. The Banjar usually isolate themselves from other people groups and do not have a favorable view of modern technology.

Engagement // What’s Happening Now

Lisa* lives in South Kalimantan. She is a merchant like many of her fellow Banjar, while her spouse works in the fields as a farmer. Lisa cares for her family and strives to be devout to her God. Lisa has not heard the Gospel message and neither has her husband. There are millions of Banjar like Lisa and her husband who strive to please “God” yet are so far from the truth. There are currently six teams in this region but many more are needed to be able to reach the Banjar.

Sustainability // The Bigger Story

The Indonesian AG is currently mobilizing its church members to reach out to Banjar communities. The lack of infrastructure has opened the door to enter into Banjar communities. The Banjar need business-people, educators and problem solvers who can find solutions to many of their basic needs such as sanitation, water purification, and development of education.

Pray, believing that God uses our passions and desires to reach the unreached. How can God use your area or passion to reach the 4.5 million Banjar who remains without access to the gospel message?

Partnership // Move Beyond

Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:

  • Pray that God would send laborers to live and work amongst the Banjar while following the mandate of Matthew 28:19 to make disciples of all nations.
  •  Pray that the church would be established among the Banjar and that this largely isolated people would hear the gospel in their own language from their family members.
  • Pray for Banjar children, that this new generation may be the first to say that they know Jesus.
  • Pray for the Banjar to have open hearts and minds as the gospel is presented to them.
